About Us

History

BOTHANDS, Inc. was created in 1990 through the grassroots efforts of local citizens concerned about the lack of affordable housing in the Flagstaff community. At the time, our organization was known as The Affordable Housing Coalition. The mission of our organization is to bring together representatives dealing with all facets of housing to identify, advocate, coordinate, pursue, initiate and implement strategies to provide affordable housing.

In the early days, BOTHANDS staff and volunteers worked to increase awareness among community members about the housing problem locally and state-wide. Through pilot programs and demonstration projects, The Affordable Housing Coalition worked to increase the supply of affordable housing and remove barriers to housing that local families were facing.

In 2003, to reflect the wide range of services our organization provides, the volunteer board of directors for The Affordable Housing Coalition voted to change the organization?s name. We became known as BOTHANDS, Inc.

BOTHANDS is an acronym that stands for Building Opportunity Through Housing and Neighborhood Development Services. Our new name helps illustrate that it takes committed partners to successfully increase safe, decent and affordable housing for our local working families.

Now, with ongoing support from our partners, BOTHANDS is helping families from homelessness to homeownership. We are making safe, decent and affordable housing a reality in the Flagstaff and Northern Arizona community.
